Using Mobile Phone as Earthquake Detection Device

This paper presents the use of mobile phone as earthquake detection device. Specifically, the iPhone SE mobile phone is used. Modern mobile phones have a wide range of sensors, of which the accelerometer is used for seismograph measurements in this paper. The resulting acceleration is expressed in Mercalli scale intensity. The application is written for iPhone that displays the total acceleration in the form of Ground Peak Acceleration. Also, the users can export the measurements for further analysis, and choose the intensity of the earthquake for which they want the notifications to be displayed.
