Mapping Land Subsidence in Hyderabad through InSAR Time Series Analysis on the Cloud-Based OpenSARLab Platform

The analysis of time series data for events such as subsidence assessment demands substantial data quantities. However, the download and processing of such extensive datasets can be time-intensive and inefficient in contemporary scenarios. To address these challenges, the implementation of analysis ready data (ARD) and cloud-computing systems emerges as a viable solution. The present study focuses on evaluating deformation across Hyderabad city in India by leveraging Sentinel-1 data collected between January 2020 and July 2023, facilitated by the OpenSARLab cloud-computing platform. The findings reveal generally stable deformations within the study area, with a few instances of subsidence near water bodies. Notably, the subsidence occurrences at three principal locations, ranges from -14 cm to -21 cm over the period of 3.5 years. These are primarily concentrated along the perimeters of embankments, suggesting a potential connection to recent construction activities. Remarkably, the GPS velocity of 0.020 mm/yr obtained from the HYDE station closely aligns with the InSAR-derived velocity of 0.014 mm/yr.
