A Comparison of Message Broadcast Protocols for Reliable Broadcasting in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) play a significant role in improving road safety and traffic management through real-time communication among vehicles. Reliable message broadcasting is an important aspect of VANETs, ensuring timely dissemination of information to all relevant vehicles within the network. This research systematically investigates and compares various message broadcast protocols designed for VANETs, evaluating their performance in terms of delay, packet delivery ratio and throughput. The study begins by providing an overview of the current challenges and requirements in VANETs, emphasizing the need for effective message broadcasting. Subsequently, a comprehensive survey of existing broadcast protocols, encompassing approaches such as flooding, probabilistic, and geographical-based methods, is conducted. The research then continues to assess the protocols' effectiveness under diverse vehicular network scenarios. Through extensive simulations and real-world experimentation, the comparison gauges the protocols' performance metrics, considering factors like network density, mobility patterns, and communication range. The results highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each protocol, offering valuable insights into their applicability in different VANET deployment scenarios.
