An integrated multi-beam optical beamformer architecture with beam-shaping capabilities

Recent demonstrations of optical phased arrays lack the capability of generating simultaneously multiple beams. We propose an optical multibeam beamformer with independent beams control, relying on a crossbar architecture. The beamforming was validated experimentally, with achieved steering angles up to 8o and two-beam generation.
