Wideband High-Gain Omnidirectional Antenna Based on Air-Balanced Microstrip Line

In order to achieve a low-profile wideband high-gain omnidirectional antenna, this paper adopts an air-balanced microstrip line feeding structure to feed the 1×8 array of half-wavelength symmetrical dipoles. As a result, a high-gain omnidirectional antenna operating in the frequency range of 0.5GHz to 0.6GHz has been developed. The antenna achieves a gain of up to 9.8dBi at 0.59GHz and a maximum deviation of 3dB in the horizontal radiation pattern within the operational frequency range which exhibits excellent omni-directional radiation characteristics. The antenna is designed using CST Microwave Studio® software simulation, and its fabrication is relatively simple, making it suitable for wide application in UHF frequency range mobile communication systems.
