TCHDD: Trust-based Cluster Head Selection for Fast Data Dissemination in 5G-V2X Networks

Vehicular networks are integrated with Fifth-Generation (5G) technology to create a 5G-V2X network to inherit the advanced properties of 5G. These networks are characterized by large data traffic due to which network entities such as gNodeB, edge node, server, etc., can potentially get overloaded. Consequently, the end-to-end delay of requests also increases. Offloading data traffic from a traditional centralized network entity to a 5G-V2X network minimizes computational complexity at the gNodeB. We introduce a technique to implement a Trust-based Cluster Head Selection for Fast Data Dissemination (TCHDD) in 5G-V2X Network. This approach incorporates cluster formation, trust calculation, and cluster head selection. TCHDD selects cluster heads based on several attributes such as vehicle’s trust value, speed, direction, storage, signal strength, and request type. This reduces gNodeB load and increases Throughput. We have compared our approach with the existing clustering approach on different parameters such as average delay, percentage of requests completed, and computational time required. The results show that TCHDD outperforms existing approaches.
