A Cortex M0 SoC Based IoT Platform for Agricultural Applications

The agricultural sector forms an important part of the world economy. It is also plagued by various environmental and economic activities. IoT-based smart agriculture is increasingly being considered to counter these challenges. Most of the state-of-the-art IoT-based designs are implemented on generic micro-controllers, which allow easy prototyping but are not optimized for agriculture-based designs. Hence the designs consume high power, limiting their scope. To allow the proliferation of IoT in agriculture, we propose an agricultural application optimized Cortex M0-based SoC platform. While optimized and having low cost and power, the design retains the flexibility to connect to any off-the-shelf sensor, making it adaptable to any kind of farming. To the best of our knowledge, no work so far has proposed such an augmented platform. We implement the SoC on the TSMC 180 nm library and observe 1681.44
