Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Using Satellite over Indian Air Space

Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is an aircraft surveillance technology in which a transmitter is placed in top and bottom of aircraft and broadcasts surveillance data such as position, velocity & aircraft identification to nearby aircraft ground stations. It can also reach to the spacecraft present in line-of-sight of the broadcasting aircraft. The paper outlines the approach to estimate the satellite antenna gain requirement in space-based ADS-B with an objective to meet Indian air space coverage requirement and its distribution statistics. The simulation uses aircraft ADS-B antenna pattern to provide optimum results over different elevation angle. The simulation results also derive the optimum geostationary orbital location to meet service requirement.
