The Impact Of DC-DC Converters In A Photovoltaic Standalone System With Partial Shading Applying The PSO MPPT Algorithm

This study aims to examine the impacts of various types of DC-DC converters, including Boost, Buck, Buck Boost, SEPIC, Cuk, and Zeta, within a photovoltaic standalone power system operating under both typical PV array conditions and partial shading conditions. The occurrence of partial shading is attributed to fluctuations in solar irradiation and the temperature of the photovoltaic array. The evaluation of DC-DC converter outputs is carried out using particle swarm optimization and maximum power point tracking techniques. The assessment focuses on factors such as the maximum losses in power, voltage, and current values of the PV array, as well as the Fill Factor value. The Fill Factor represents the ratio of the maximum power under partial shade conditions to the product of open circuit voltage and short circuit current for the solar array values utilized. With regard to these aforementioned values, this assessment is discussed. Based on these evaluations, the Buck and Zeta converters are determined to be the most suitable DC-DC converters for the partial shading condition due to their lower losses.
