Maximizing the Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks through Fuzzy Controller-Based LEACH Protocol with Longevity Constraints

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have emerged as essential tools for efficient data collection, offering versatility across different scales, from small-scale to large-scale deployments. Maximizing energy efficiency is crucial to prolong the lifespan of Sensor Node(SN)s within the network, and several protocols have been proposed to optimize this aspect. One such protocol is Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), which employs clustering techniques for energy optimization. However, the LEACH protocol does not prioritize longevity as a primary constraint. To enhance the lifespan of WSNs, a potential solution is to integrate Rendezvous Node(s)(RN) into the fuzzy controller-based LEACH protocol. By leveraging this approach, the sink node can directly transmit data to the specific nodes responsible for data collection, bypassing the need for relaying through a Base Station (BS). This modification has the potential to significantly improve the overall performance of the fuzzy controller-based LEACH protocol, leading to extend operational lifetimes for WSNs and ensuring the availability of more accurate and comprehensive datasets. By considering longevity as a key factor and incorporating RN, this enhanced protocol can optimize energy consumption while maximizing the operational life of the WSN, thereby contributing to more efficient and reliable data collection in various application scenarios.
