Design of a Novel Topology for Off Board Bidirectional Electric Vehicle Fast Charger using Three Phase Dual Active Bridge

For enhancing the deployment of Electric Vehicle (EV) with the grid, the design and control of a novel off-board EV charger is presented in this paper. The proposed topology consists of an Active Front End Converter (AFC) coupled with a three-phase Dual Active Bridge (DAB). This innovative design offers the potential to support grid ancillary services, fostering bi-directional power flow with electrical isolation, and minimizing switching losses. The control strategy employs a modulation scheme with constant duty cycle to regulate the power flow in the bridges. The proposed EV charger topology is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to assess its performance, with a particular focus on steady-state conditions.
