Interactive Augmented Reality Implementation for Geomorphology by Using Open Data Source

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology has shown great potential in enhancing the learning experience in various fields, including geomorphological learning. Geomorphology studies the shape and process of formation of the earth’s surface. AR technology can be used as a learning aid to visualize and learn geomorphological concepts interactively. In the context of geomorphology, one can view and interact with 3D models of geomorphological forms such as mountains, valleys, rivers, and coasts directly on a table or through a mobile device. The availability of free data, such as SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission) and data from Google, allows the creation of 3D geomorphological models in all corners of the world. The ease of making this application is also supported by free software such as Blender, Unity Hub, and Vuforia Engine so that the creation of applications is more optimal. As a result, by using open-source data, AR applications are very easy and inexpensive to build. From this free and open data source software, 1 geomorphology application package was created in several unique locations from around the world (except the polar regions) to make geomorphology learning more enjoyable. For users, AR applications that have been built are quite easy to use. All respondents said that learning geomorphology with AR is more fun because it gives a real impression to the user.
