Performance Investigations on Bi-Directional DCDC Converter for Electric Vehicle Charger Using OPAL-RT

This paper examines the performance of a Bidirectional DC-DC converter in electric vehicle charger synchronized with the smart grid employing synchronous reference frame. The proposed system consists of two separate converters, the primary AC-DC converters (charging point) and the secondary DC-DC converters (connected to the EV battery). Manual switches are provided to regulate the bidirectional flow of power between the EV the grid and battery, which depends on the total energy requirements. Synchronous reference control with PLL is utilized to synchronize the unit with the grid and prevent high grid current flow. A MATLAB Simulink model of the bidirectional converter is created and validated through real-time simulations using OPAL-RT. Real time State of charge of battery along with its voltage and current and other results are obtained using OPAL-RT.
