Investigation of the Effects on Power Quality of Traditional Power System Interconnected with Large Scale Renewable Energy Source

With the evolution in environmental guidelines, the rise in the requirement for electricity and the regionalization of electricity generation, the interconnection of Renewable Energy Sources(RES) into conventional power systems is gaining attention from researchers. This interconnection comes with challenges like power quality, active and reactive power management, low voltage ride-through capability, and protection issues. This paper investigates the impacts of large-scale integration of RES into radial distribution system. The photovoltaic(PV) array and wind energy conversion systems (WECS) are modelled, simulated and integrated into the Modified IEEE 33 node radial distribution test system. The analysis is carried out to find the impact of RES on voltage fluctuations, voltage profile and harmonics of the system in MATLAB/Simulink software.
