Enhancing Performance through Diversity Schemes in Cooperative VLC Systems with OOK Modulation

Visible light communication (VLC) is a wireless technique that allows for the instantaneous transmission of data and improves resource consumption. The cooperative communication (CC) properties of supported transmission via relay nodes lead to higher system capacity, considerable gains in spatial diversity, and improved network coverage. The decode- and-forward (DF) relaying method is presented in this study for cooperative VLC (C-VLC) systems that employ the on-off keying (OOK) modulation technique. The signals received from cooperative transmissions are combined using the equal gain combining (EGC) or selection based combining (SBC) techniques, which are contrasted. In this paper, the bit error probability (BEP) of a C-VLC system for two users employing OOK modulation is computed for both perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI). In-depth simulations are performed in order to validate the analytical BEP results and are compared with direct transmission.
