Accident Prevention in Curved Ghat Roads Using Embedded Systems

Accidents can strike at any moment and in any place, inflicting damage not only upon our surroundings but also posing grave threats to human life, at times even resulting in tragic fatalities. With increasing population and technological advancements, the number of vehicles and transportation options has grown exponentially. Although initially designed to accommodate increased traffic flow, many roads have inadvertently become hot-spots for accidents and congestion. One specific scenario that requires attention is the prevention of accidents on curved Ghat roads in hilly or mountain regions. These areas pose a greater risk due to sharp turns, unexpected curves, unfamiliarity with the road, and poor visibility of approaching vehicles. In order to ensure safer travel in such regions, our proposed system aims to improve visibility for drivers by incorporating LED displays that indicate the presence of vehicles on the opposite side of the road. To achieve this goal, our model utilizes a combination of three sensors: a magnetometer sensor, a microwave radar sensor, and an inductive loop detector sensor. These sensors work together to detect vehicles in the vicinity. When at least two of the sensors detect a vehicle, the LED display on the other side of the road illuminates, alerting drivers to the vehicle’s presence.
