QoS-Aware Congestion Control using SRv6

In the context of modern networks struggling with escalating traffic volumes and diverse service demands, advanced routing decisions and traffic engineering methods are indispensable. This study introduces ”Sepitto v2”, a congestion control mechanism for distinct Quality of Service (QoS) classes. By leveraging Segment Routing (SR), particularly Segment Routing with IPv6 (SRv6), Sepitto piggybacks on data-plane traffic to convey Linux Queuing Discipline (Qdisc) statistics among Linux-based virtual routers. By incorporating this information, ingress routers can make informed decisions regarding network traffic load based on the QoS class of the traffic. Utilizing SRv6, Sepitto alters traffic routes to avoid congestion, minimizing delays and latency. Moreover, Sepitto empowers network administrators to customize decision-making processes, establish cost metrics for network graph edges, and implement specific congestion policies for various QoS classes. Performance evaluations showcase Sepitto’s efficient congestion control with minimal overhead, preserving differentiated QoS class treatment while reducing latency during congestion.
