Strengthening Smart City with Opportunistic Networks: An Insight

Smart cities require omnipresent urban sensing and communication with the goal that progressed and creative administrations can be given to improve the general nature of residents' life. It is likely difficult to give proper connection under certain conditions because of the significant expense or low communication coverage. Cellular communication is exorbitant for data transmission with huge volumes and free Wi-Fi connections are not perpetually usable. Opportunistic networks offer advantage of seamless communication in the districts with poor or no network coverage by minimal transmissions. Benefits of opportunistic networks are two-fold: 1) their foundation is more adaptable than the cellular network 2) the transmissions are highly effective with minimal effort. Considering the above-mentioned advantages, this article focuses on commitment of opportunistic networks in laying strong establishments for Smart Cities.
