Improving Healthcare through an IoT Based Automated Medication Dispenser

The healthcare industry has been significantly impacted by the Internet of Things (IoT). This paper introduces an IoT based automated solid medicine dispenser. The purpose of this device is to prevent neglect, remind patients of their prescription schedule, automatically dispense medicines, retain information about missing medication, and record medication data in a cloud-based storage system. This will enable individuals, particularly the elderly, to avoid non-compliance, overdose, and suboptimal dosage. The ESP8266 microcontroller was utilized, with C/C++ as the programming language, and an RTC module for precise time measurement. The mechanism was constructed utilizing miniature servo motors and a direct current (DC) gear motor. Optimal outcomes are attained by fulfilling all the necessary conditions, with the automated dispensing of the pill box taking a mere 5.7 seconds.
