Performance Evaluation of IRS Assisted HARQ aided MIMO Wireless Network over Different Fading Channels

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is a potential candidate for future wireless networks for reliable communication. This paper aims to achieve effective and reliable communication in future wireless networks thus addressing an IRS assisted hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) aided multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless networks. Further, in the HARQ protocol, the equal gain combining (EGC) technique has been considered. The performance of the proposed schemes has been evaluated for Rayleigh fading, Rician fading, and Nakagami-m fading channels under the proposed framework. The performance of the system has been analyzed in terms of achievable data rate and bit error rate (BER) of users for varying signal to noise ratio (SNR). Further, based on the simulation result, it is presented that the proposed IRS assisted scheme is superior to conventional schemes under different fading channels under consideration. The proposed schemes show significant performance improvement in terms of data rate and BER.
