Performance of High-Accuracy TAG-Based Ranging for Multipath in Indoor Environments

With the widespread use of intelligent devices, research on wireless signal ranging and localization is of great significance in applications such as personnel tracking, privacy protection, perception, and ranging. In these applications, in addition to ranging the direct path, ranging of multipath signals has also become a focus of attention. However, due to the susceptibility of multipath signals to environmental effects, multipath ranging is inherently unstable. Therefore, we propose a method based on wireless reflection tags to improve the accuracy of multipath ranging. By utilizing the power amplifier module of the reflection tag, it is possible to manipulate the power of the multipath signals reflected by the tag. This allows for the extraction of path information that is exclusively related to the reflection paths of the tag, resulting in a highly accurate multipath ranging capability. We then validate the proposed method using simulation. Compared to methods without power control, our method can improve the accuracy of multipath ranging by 67.7%.
