Field-flash annealing of Co-rich amorphous alloy

Experimental results are presented on the field-flash annealing of an amorphous alloy of nominal composition Co/sub 75/Si/sub 15/B/sub 10/ made by the melt-spinning technique. Changes of the anisotropy energy, initial susceptibility, and coercive field after field-flash annealing at different intensities were measured. It is concluded that field-flash annealing is a convenient technique for improving the magnetic properties of soft magnetic materials such as amorphous alloys. This treatment relaxes internal stresses and suppresses the induction of transverse anisotropy. An axial magnetic anisotropy can be induced that gives rise to a reduction in coercive field and anisotropy energy and to an increase in initial susceptibility. Modification of the magnetostriction constant proportional to the mentioned parameters was detected after the field-flash annealing.<>
