How does green human resource management influence employee engagement through the sustainable organization of air courier services providers?

Businesses have increasingly recognized the importance of employee engagement because of its positive effects on profitability, productivity, sales, absenteeism, and customer loyalty. However, the aftermath of the pandemic has presented various challenges to its implementation, such as cost-cutting, layoffs, restructuring, and staff burnout. To promote sustainability, businesses must adopt green human resource management (GHRM) and integrate it with sustainable organizational practices. Following this strategy can quickly boost employee engagement. Notably, in the logistics sector, particularly air transportation, this means rapidly focusing on sustainability awareness to reduce CO
2
emissions. It is, therefore, interesting to examine this sector. This study aims to investigate the key influence of GHRM on employee engagement in sustainable organizations. The research design involves the analysis of descriptive statistics and quantitative data using a regression model. The data were collected from online convenience surveys of 351 employees working at three major air courier service providers in Thailand. The results emphasize the strong influence that GHRM has on employee engagement. To achieve this, organizations should apply the principles of GHRM in their recruitment, training and development, performance management, compensation, benefits, and welfare. To improve GHRM, an organization should focus on enhancing its environmental tracks and reporting its performance to external stakeholders. Sustainable organizations play a significant mediating role between GHRM and employee engagement, especially when organizations effectively communicate their sustainability efforts and progress on environmental aspects to stakeholders. The findings of this research provide valuable insights that can assist organizations in the air courier service provider industry in optimizing their strategies to foster and expedite employee engagement.
