A Switched-Capacitor Multilevel Transformerless PV Inverter with MPC for Grid Integration

In this paper, a novel switched capacitor-based inverter topology is proposed that produces five level auto boosted output voltage. Six switches, one dc voltage source, and one switching capacitor are utilized in this novel inverter. Notably, the capacitors’ voltage levels are kept in balance through direct charging from the input dc voltage source. Moreover, the leakage current issue is successfully resolved by creating a freewheeling path. This topology also reduces harmonic distortions in the inverter output voltage and grid current. To ensure accurate passing of active and reactive power to the grid, the system uses a model predictive control technique. The conduction modes, circuit description, and model predictive control algorithm to the suggested topology are covered in this paper. In addition, the comparison of the proposed inverter to various existing multilevel inverter topologies are discussed here. Simulation results validated in MATLAB/Simulink platform are represented in this paper. Additionally, experimental findings are also depicted here from a lab-built prototype that was put through a variety of tests in order to fully assess the effectiveness of the proposed inverter.
