Techno-Economic Analysis of OFF-Grid Hybrid Energy System in Bangladesh Using HOMER

The energy production of the future must be sustainable without harming human health or the environment. It seems impossible to satisfy the rising need for electricity with the current trends, creating scenarios for energy with reduced use of fossil fuels, nuclear energy, etc. In South Asia, Bangladesh is a developing nation with promising renewable energy sources. One of the country’s main problems is a severe energy crisis, such as the shortage of power generation for several decades. By implementing widespread utilization of renewable energy sources within the power sector, this problem can be alleviated. A hybrid renewable energy system is an ideal alternative to off-grid electrification of remote islands. Our objective is to develop an efficient hybrid energy system and conduct a thorough analysis of its technical and economic viability, optimization potential, sensitivity to variables, risk assessment and emission levels for the rural area of Bhola district known as Manpura using wind, PV, battery storage tank and natural gas generator by HOMER simulation software. An optimized hybrid system comprising PV, Wind Turbine, Battery, Converter, and Natural Gas Generator has been designed to fulfill the energy requirements of Manpura, an isolated rural community. The system will feed a daily load demand of 2733.44 kWh and a peak demand of 288.51 kW. Simulation results indicate a favorable Cost of Energy (COE) at $0.17/kWh and a Net Present Cost (NPC) totaling $4.23M.
