Efficient Data Collection Scheme for IRS-Based V2I Backscatter Communications

Efficient data collection is one of the key technologies in future vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication systems. The intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) and backscatter communication (BackCom) techniques are expected to realize low-power transmission, showing great potential in V2I networks. Thus, this letter introduces an IRS-based V2I BackCom system, where multiple IRSs send road information by backscattering the signals emitted by a vehicle. Meanwhile, the vehicle collects the backscattered data from IRSs. To maximize the collected data volume, we jointly design the IRS reflection coefficients and transmit power at the vehicle through an alternative optimization algorithm. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed system and scheme.
