Intelligent Bird Detection and Repeller System in Rice Field Based on Internet of Things

Bird pests on rice plants are one of the serious problems faced by farmers, bird attacks cause significant losses in crop yields and reduce the productivity of rice fields. Along with technological developments, this paper proposes a prototype system for detecting and repelling birds in rice fields to remain high quality and significantly reduce losses farmers suffer. This system will automatically detect the presence of birds and repel them effectively. The detection method uses sound and motion-based sensor technology, data processing uses a microcontroller to identify the presence of birds, then the system activates bird repellent that is a servo and buzzer. Data from sensors is transmitted to the Internet of Things devices using wireless communication, namely Long Range (LoRa), then the data from the sensor will be displayed on the Thingsboard platform and LCD. This system can be a substitute for the task of farmers to protect rice plants from bird attacks if farmers cannot go to the rice fields at any time. The test results show the accuracy of the calibration process for the microphone sensor reaches 98.17% with a threshold of more than 50 dB and less than 75 dB, while the accuracy for the ultrasonic sensor at a distance of 3 - 90 cm reaches an error value of 0% and at a distance of 90 - 400 cm it reaches an error value of 0.69%.
