Cross-Layer Channel Scheduling for Multi-Cell Radio-Over-Fiber MIMO Networks

The MIMO network architecture of Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) combines the super bandwidth of optical network, the ubiquitous access of wireless network and the advantages of supporting mobile access, has been widely used in 5G microcell and power private network. Diversified services put forward different key requirements for bearer networks. The MAC layer rate and PHY layer rate are be decoupled to achieve more flexible data and traffic scheduling transmission on the time slot, it is still necessary to schedule the PHY layer resources to meet the service transmission efficiency of each sub-calendar. In this paper, we study the RoF network architecture with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). Considering that the slot transmission rate may not match after PHY and MAC are decoupled, a cross-layer channel scheduling strategy is proposed to maximize the utilization of physical channels and reduce the buffer burden that redundant bandwidth may bring to MAC. The system is modeled as a channel-data transmission rate utilization maximization problem, and use the integer programming optimization algorithm to solve it. We further propose a multi-step channel scheduling algorithm based on message passing. The simulation results show that the channel utilization efficiency can be effectively improved by cross-layer optimization of channel scheduling strategy with low complixity.
