Digital Literacy in Device Use Among Secondary School Students

Digitalisation is part of our lives, part of our lives. The powerful IT advances of the fourth industrial revolution permeate every aspect of our lives. The younger generation is now defined as the “always online” generation, which is the main characteristic not only of Generation Z but also of the next alpha generation. Digitalisation has many positive effects, it can help us in our daily tasks and work, making communication easier and faster, making certain services available, connecting people working around the world. But there is a downside to these processes, with significant risks and dangers. The young generation, who are not sufficiently aware of these risks, are the most exposed. Fraud, abuse and bullying in the digital space affect different generations differently. Digital literacy has become as important a concept in the 21st century as financial literacy or any aspect of it. The aim of this paper is to present the perceptions of secondary school students about digitalisation through their perception of digital tools, based on the results of a primary research. The study aims to highlight areas and anomalies that are certainly worthy of attention and need to be addressed in order to ensure that the process continues in the most risk-free way possible, thus helping to ensure that the beneficial features of digitalisation are put into practice.
