The Relationship Between Young Adults' Internet Skills and their Satisfaction with Life and Career

In the digital age, the digital and internet skills impact quality of life in various ways. The aim of this study is to examine, whether satisfaction with life and career, as well as related future expectations, are associated with different dimensions of internet skills. An online questionnaire survey was conducted in four countries, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland involving 1907 respondents, who are maximum 31 years old and have at least one diploma from one of the four countries examined. Measuring digital skills, the Internet Skill Scale is used and satisfaction with life is measured on a 10-point scale using the single-stem Satisfaction with Life Scale. Current satisfaction with carrier is measured on a five-point scale. Using these two measurement tools, participants' expected satisfaction 10 years later is also assessed. The relationships are analyzed using ordered logistic regression and linear regression, and the appropriate method is selected and results are reported based on the diagnostic test outcomes. Our findings indicate that internet skills are not significantly associated with current satisfaction with life. However, respondents with better internet skills have a more positive future outlook in terms of both life and career satisfaction. For career satisfaction, internet skills are already associated with higher present satisfaction. Our results provide insights into the associations between internet skills and satisfaction with life and career. Further research is needed to explore the impact of internet skills on satisfaction, employing more comprehensive scales for measuring different dimensions of satisfaction.
