Diode-Capacitor Assisted Input Switched AC to DC Boost Converter with Improved Power Quality

The design and analysis of a modified input-switched AC-DC boost converter which significantly outperforms the traditional converter is presented in this paper. We have provided a thorough theoretical analysis of the suggested converter in this paper, illuminating its operating principles and voltage gain expression. We have applied a suitable control scheme which provides output voltage regulation maintaining near unity power factor (PF) and lesser amount of input current total harmonic distortion (THD) (mostly below 10%). The proposed converter in comparison to typical AC-DC boost converter provides superior power quality with regard to conversion efficiency, THD and PF. Dual networks of diode-capacitor enable the suggested converter in achieving greater boost voltage.
