Empirical Investigation of a Single-Phase New Topology Hybrid AC-DC Boost Converter with Low THD and High-Power Factor

This paper presents an empirical investigation of a novel single-phase hybrid AC-DC boost converter with the primary objectives of achieving low input current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and a high input Power Factor (PF). The proposed converter topology combines the benefits of both AC and DC conversion techniques to ensure efficient power transfer and enhanced grid compatibility. The theoretical underpinnings of the hybrid converter design are elucidated, emphasizing the innovative features that enable THD mitigation and PF enhancement. The proposed converter in open loop provides input current THD within IEEE 519 standard for moderate duty ratios and near unity power factor for almost all the duty ratio.
