A Comprehensive Reactive Power Optimization Model for Distribution Grid with Renewables

High penetration of distributed renewables in the distribution grid has adverse effects on nodal voltage, network loss, and system stable operation. In order to address these adverse effects, this paper established a comprehensive reactive power optimization model via coordinating multiple reactive power compensation measures to achieve the optimal operation of the distribution power grid. The objective function minimizing the sum of voltage deviation, network loss, and economic cost is established firstly, the constraints of node voltage and branch current in the grid, the output constraints of access to new energy, and the reactive output constraints of Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Shunt compensation capacitor are also considered. Then, the comprehensive reactive power optimal mathematical model is solved by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Finally, the simulation results of the IEEE33-bus distribution network verify the practicality of the proposed reactive power optimization strategy.
