Harmonic Damping in Wind Farm Power Lines Using Shunt Active Filter Based on Voltage Detection

This paper presents the design of a shunt active filter based on voltage detection to compensate for harmonics in the medium voltage level of a power distribution system. Then, two scenarios are evaluated with the proposed damping technique, one with a 13.8 kV at 15 MVA distribution system model with wind farm real parameters and the other with a smaller scale considering one wind turbine of 4 kVA. The results show up to 50 % voltage harmonics content reductions and up to 85 % for the current ones along with the bars of the considered power system. For the smaller-scale scenario, a similar behavior is found. Then the proposed application presented in this paper is suitable in application where damping in harmonics contents is required using low-cost approaches.
