Design Optimization of Linear Induction Motor for UAV Launching Application

Double sided Linear Induction motor is effectively used as an energy machine in Electromagnetic Aircraft Launching System (EMALS) to launch aircraft from the deck of carriers. Miniature size of this complete system is used for launching of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Preliminary design, Modelling and simulation of Long Primary Double Sided Linear Induction Motor (LP DSLIM) for launching of UAV of 250 kilogram weight at 40 m/s is done in this paper. Simulation optimization method is adopted for optimizing the design by analysing the performance with change in various design parameters. ANSYS MAXWELL software tool is used for 2D modelling and simulation.
