Research on the Comprehensive Impact of Visual Perception by Lighting and Glass of Display Cabinet in Art Museum

Two psychophysical experiments have been conducted to investigate the effect of lighting and material of cabinet's mask in art museum. Over 40 observers were asked to evaluate lacquerware under different light sources of 3000K and 4000K matching glass or plastic mask in experiment 1. The subjective evaluation of individual exhibits and overall display area were scaled. While in experiment 2, color discrimination under different materials of mask were investigated. The results indicate the mask is the most significant element that influence the visual perception. Observers preferred light source of 4000K under glass mask while lighting of higher illuminance with 3000K under plastic mask. In addition, the mask material showed significant effect on color discrimination and glass mask perform better than plastic mask.
