ECINS: Efficient Caching for ICN-IoT based on Node Score

ICN (Information-Centric Network) is a content-centric network that prioritizes content over the source of the content. IoT (Internet of Things) is a sensor network where each device functions as a sensor, generating a huge amount of data regularly. The existing IP-based network relies on the addresses of the source and destination, leading to inefficiencies in data handling and management. To address this data dissemination challenge in IoT, this paper proposes ECINS (Efficient Caching for ICN-IoT based on Nodes Score) which utilizes ICN in-network caching to store content within the network. ICN In-network caching enables intermediate IoT nodes to store caches that can be used to fulfill future requests, thereby reducing the need to repeatedly access the content source. It is crucial to select the appropriate node for caching data to establish an efficient network. The proposed caching policy selects nodes for caching based on their position and remaining energy levels. Nodes with higher connectivity and sufficient remaining energy are chosen to cache content. This approach allows content to be stored at more connected nodes, enabling them to serve more requests. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed policy, and the results demonstrate a significant improvement in terms of cache hit ratio, content retrieval delay, and energy consumption compared to existing approaches.
