Developing a Portable Smart Ventilator: A Prototype that Balances Cost and Functionality

Mechanical ventilation plays a crucial role in saving lives, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients requiring constant ventilation benefit from improved respiratory function due to viral-induced fluid accumulation in the lungs. Monitoring vital signs like temperature, oxygen saturation, and heart rate is essential for assessing the patient’s respiratory health, as deviations from the normal range can lead to adverse effects. The project’s objective is to create a portable, intelligent respirator to enhance healthcare for outpatient settings and increase capacity for severe respiratory cases, reducing hospital-acquired infections and costs. This ventilator employs medical sensors to measure vital parameters and transmits the data wirelessly to a cloud server for future retrieval, analysis, and research. The device utilizes IoT technology for wireless connectivity and can display the data on an integrated screen.
