FACE Configurator: A Code Generation Tool for Automatic Flight Control Systems

Modular architecture concept on automatic flight control systems (AFCS) is one of the components of an aviation software architecture aligned with the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) [1] and DO-178C standards [2]. AFCS software is structured in a modular architecture based on FACE technical standard which is a guideline to enforce operating system and hardware independence as well as software components' reusability and portability. It means that AFCS software is composed of segments that use each other's services with well-defined interfaces. For all FACE segments, the idea is to implement the actual functionality in FACE components and then connect these components in a pre-determined way so as to build up the whole Operational Flight Program (OFP). FACE Configurator tool has been developed for this idea to enhance the usability of the infrastructure underlying the FACE architecture, prevent repetition and reduce the number of operational steps while generating, deleting or updating elements. Moreover, FACE Configurator tool facilitate the reuse of proven code components, enabling efficient development and maintenance of aircraft systems. With the ability to generate documentation, enforce compliance, and support cross-platform compatibility, FACE Configurator tool contribute to the efficiency, safety, and reliability of software in aircraft systems, ensuring that they meet the rigorous demands of the aviation industry.
