A Multimodal Corpus-Based Study of Syndromic Nature of Illocutionary Force

This study focuses on how dynamic multimodal discourse employs various expressive means to carry out speech acts and convey linguistic power. Taking selected segments from the Beijing Winter Olympics opening ceremony as the corpus, qualitative and quantitative analysis methods were applied using analysis software such as Elan and Praat to investigate the syndromic nature of language power expression in terms of turn taking, prosodic features, and visual representation. This study explores how to further integrate diverse modalities to achieve a seamless transition from “narrative” to “narrative stance”, enabling the completion of speech acts in multimedia square ceremony texts and the realization of conveying aesthetic images to conveying artistic conception. By further analyzing the syndromic nature of multimodal discourse, it is hoped to gain a deeper understanding of the coexistence phenomena of linguistic power in multimodal discourse and explore new approaches to enhance the quality and effectiveness of language expression.
