A Wireless Neural Interface Device for Simultaneous Optogenetics and Neural Recording

This paper proposed a wireless neural interface device integrated both optical stimulation for optogenetics and neural recording. The proposed design enables advanced multiple-mode neuromodulation paradigms performed on a freely moving animal subject. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is used for wireless control and data transmission. The recording channels support an 8k Samples/s data rate and a 24-bit data resolution with low-noise PGA of 2.8μV
rms
and low power consumption of 335μW/channel. The stimulation channels allow a maximum output current of 10mA which can drive micro-LED probes for optical stimulation implanted in animals. The programmable Micro Controller Unit (MCU) enables open/closed-loop neural modulation. Measurement results and in-vivo experiment demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of the proposed wireless neural interface device.
