Characterization of Spatial Consistency of Millimeter-Wave Cluster Channels in an Urban Environment

This paper presented the spatial consistency of millimeter-wave (mm-wave) multipath cluster channels based on propagation measurements at 24 and 60 GHz in an urban cellular environment. Understanding site-specific propagation channel characteristics at mm-wave frequencies is crucial due to its highly environment-dependent nature. This study simultaneously measured double-directional angle-resolved channel impulse responses at two frequencies moving the receiver along a route using the channel sounder with fast beam steering capability. A high-resolution path parameter estimation algorithm was used to extract multipath components (MPCs) from the measured data. Then, a clustering algorithm was applied. As a spatial consistency measure, the statistical results of the correlation distance of clusters obtained at two frequencies by cluster tracking were presented and compared with the 3GPP model.
