Study of Reliability and Resilience of Distribution Systems in Taiwan

Power system reliability is important but traditional for system operations. Typically, metrics such as System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) have been used in many power industries. In addition, power system resilience has attracted attention because extreme weather events gradually increase. In this study, several actual statistics about power system reliability for the distribution system in Taiwan were explored in different geographical areas and seasons. Moreover, the main reasons that caused power interruptions in recent years were analyzed. The definition of resilience with possible measured metrics was discussed, and historical accidents in Taiwan for potential resilience evaluations were analyzed.
