Managing smart grids – Experiences from Hungary

Demand for electricity is steadily increasing from both industry and households. The study of smart grids in operation from an economic and management perspective is still relatively rare at international level. The prosumer and prosumption theory is an increasingly popular topic in the literature, and in this paper we look at the role of prosumers in smart grids using systematic literature review. Additionally we show in our study how smart grids work through some Hungarian examples. The presented smart grids in operation are classified according to the main actors involved. The proposed category system provides an opportunity for a deeper understanding of smart grids from a management and behavioral point of view. This is the novel feature of this article, which can help to better understand prosumers and help decision makers in a future information campaign.
