A Reflector Antenna with Horn-Array Feeding Source for Terahertz Applications

A horn-array-fed reflector antenna for long-distance terahertz communication is introduced. Terahertz waves have a very small wavelength, which poses great challenges to the fabrication of terahertz antenna arrays and the connection with the T/R components. In this paper, a horn array with fan-out excitations for terahertz applications is presented and discussed, and it is used as a feed source of an offset parabolic reflector to achieve high-gain and multi-beam performance. The fan-out structure is simple and in-phase, and has low insertion loss. As the number of channels increases, the fan-out structure becomes complex and bulky, and it is suitable for the reflector antenna with a modest number of feeding elements and limited scanning capability.
