Effects of Coaxial Connector Deformation on Digital Signal Waveform

Coaxial connectors degrade in extreme working conditions and affect digital signal transmission significantly. In this work, the effects of coaxial connector deformation on signal integrity and digital signal were investigated using model analysis and measurements. An equivalent circuit model of a coaxial connector was developed with different deformation degrees. The respective scattering parameters were simulated and analyzed for each level. The simulated model results were verified experimentally which show good agreement. Based on the equivalent circuit models, the transmission performance of the digital signal was predicted and the respective eye diagram parameters were analyzed. Further, the effects of deformation on the digital signal waveform were also simulated and analyzed. The results show that connector deformation will significantly affect high frequency and high-speed digital signal transmission and lead to connector failure.
