Performance Evaluation of Five and Seven Level H-Bridge Inverter Under Change in Modulation Index by using Hardware - in the - Loop

Inverters are required to supply AC power to various loads from DC source. Generally, conventional inverters are imposing more harmonics into loads which cause some damage on loads especially sensitive loads. Multilevel inverters are implementing to produce a sinusoidal voltage with fewer harmonics. Most commonly used configuration of multilevel inverter is H-Bridge multilevel inverter. Many industries are using five and seven level inverters for various applications. Hence, performance evaluation of both five and seven level H-Bridge multilevel inverters is discussed. The modulation index is typically used to control the inverter's output voltage and frequency. The output of the multilevel inverter is controlled in this study using a Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) approach for generating switching pulses to IGBTS in the inverter. Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) is implemented utilizing OPAL-RT modules to display results. Various results are examined in this paper under different operating conditions by using HIL.
