Dopamine Neurotransmitters Detection: A Study on Electrochemical Methods using Quantum Dots

Significant health issues have been linked to low levels of the monoamine neurotransmitter. Electrochemical sensors have been developed for this specific use, and they've shown to be rather sensitive. Carbon-based quantum dots have emerged as an essential component in electrochemical sensors owing to their high conductivity, low cytotoxicity, and unique optoelectronic properties in recent years. In order to detect neurotransmitters with greater sensitivity and at a lower cost, electrochemical sensors based on carbon quantum dots have been developed. A thorough investigation of the developments made in the field of sensors intended for monoamine NTs is warranted by the substantial electro-catalytic capabilities shown by carbon and graphene quantum dots (CQDs and GQDs). This study compares and contrast the two types of quantum dots, focusing on their similarities and differences. Then, this study analyses howthey've been used in electrochemical sensors within the last decade. Dopamine (DA) is the principal monoamine neurotransmitter of interest, and research examining the use of GQDs and CQDs as electrochemical sensors are discussed.
