Switch Diversity Technology in Mitigating Attenuation of Fiber Optic Signal Receiver Ku-Band VSAT Antenna

The need for a communication system using VSAT technology on the Ku-Band band is now starting to develop in Indonesia, both the need for pay TV or internet provision, The problem in using VSAT Ku-band technology is propagation that occurs due to weather disturbances, especially rain. As a result of these weather conditions, it produces a high enough attenuation which can result in disruption, disturbance at a certain level can have an impact on service down. The switch diversity program is used to move channels from transmission networks that are affected by interference to other transmission channels. The fiber optic diversity channel under study has two channels. In this study, researchers conducted an analysis by making a comparison between two fiber optic cores using a diversity switch to determine the quality of the signal when the transmission path is exposed to rain. The results of the research on fiber optic links from the two transmission lines of one transmission obtain a signal quality that is less strong below the fair reference limit value where the value is −10.73 dB. Meanwhile, one transmission path has a fairly low attenuation value and signal reception is better close to the reference value. Signal-to-noise ratio Normal Downstream SNR 155 dB, Abnormal SNR < 80 dB.
