Behavioral data analysis of sea turtles from the Pacific coast of Panama, using biotelemetry.

This study investigates the monitoring of green turtles (Chelonia mydas), a critically endangered species, on the Pacific coasts of Panama. SPOT-375B satellite transmission tags are used to track these turtles, which transmit data to the Argos satellite network, providing real-time information with an accuracy margin of up to 250 meters. This information is vital for understanding the behaviors of these turtles, such as their migratory routes, feeding habits, and nesting areas. In addition, the identification of new nesting sites is crucial for the implementation of effective conservation strategies. To analyze this data, rigorous quality criteria and the Haversine formula are used, which allows for calculating the distance and speed between points. This work lays the foundation for the use of machine learning techniques in future analyses of turtle movement data.
